Creating a Family-Centric Home Cinema
In 2022, the client approached Pure Theatre for guidance on setting up a home cinema in their family room. Their goal was to create an immersive, family-friendly experience that would bring everyone together in one space. Due to the unique layout of the room—with a door on one side, an inglenook fireplace on the other, and a bay window on the third wall—finding an ideal spot for a traditional TV was challenging.
The client opted for a concealed screen and projector setup, which would preserve the room’s aesthetic appeal while providing a premium viewing experience.The project required designing a home cinema setup that would blend seamlessly into the existing architecture, with concealed technology that wouldn’t detract from the room's charm. The goal was to ensure the technology would only be visible when in use, allowing the family to enjoy the room's natural beauty during non-viewing times.

- CR50 Projector Lift with Epson EH-TW9400 Projector: This lift allows the projector to be hidden away in the ceiling when not in use. The lift was plastered flush with the ceiling, making it nearly invisible when retracted.
- CR240 Projection Screen: Positioned in front of the bay window, the 104-inch viewable screen creates a stunning viewing area without obstructing the natural light or architectural features when retracted. The screen’s sleek, hidden design maintains the room’s aesthetic integrity.
- 3 x Monitor Audio CP-WT380-IDC In-Wall Speakers: Installed in the front wall, these speakers deliver crisp and dynamic audio for a cinematic experience.
- 2 x Monitor Audio C380-IDC In-Ceiling Speakers and 4 x C280-IDC In-Ceiling Speakers: Installed to provide immersive surround sound from above, enhancing the Dolby Atmos experience.
- SVS SB-2000 Pro Subwoofer: Provides rich, deep bass, rounding out the audio for an authentic theater feel.
CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS
With only limited wall space available due to the door, fireplace, and bay window, the decision to install a concealed screen and projector allowed the client to maximize the use of the room. The screen’s placement in front of the bay window, along with the ceiling-mounted projector lift, solved the spatial challenges while preserving the room's aesthetics.
The client was particularly pleased with the engineering and ease of installation of the Pure Theatre projector lift and screen, which allowed for precise adjustments to achieve an optimal picture.
THE OUTCOME
The completed space provides a beautifully hidden home cinema that is easy for the entire family to enjoy. The concealed screen and projector lift allow the family room to retain its inviting appearance when not in use, while the Dolby Atmos 5.1.4 speaker system creates an immersive experience during movie nights and TV viewing.
