JBL Synthesis SCL-4 In-Wall Speaker

The JBL Synthesis SCL-4 is a custom in-wall loudspeaker designed for use as an LCR or surround channel in a variety of applications. It features JBL's patented 2409H 1-inch (25mm) compression driver mated to a High-Definition Imaging (HDI™) horn. A 7-inch (180mm) Advanced Aluminum Matrix cone cast-frame woofer provides detailed and dynamic response with low distortion. The integrated MDF enclosure is designed for installation in standard 2x4 wood frame construction, and Internal connections allow for bi-wiring or bi-amplification in advanced installations. The SCL-4 is ideal for use in medium to large rooms.

The SCL-4 starts with a 7-inch woofer with rugged cast frame, a cone of Advanced Aluminum Matrix material for low-mass stiffness, and powerful neodymium magnet assembly for reduced distortion and high power-handling capability. And with a power capacity of 200 watts, the SCL-4 supplies the wide dynamic range that today’s cinema soundtracks demand. JBL’s unique 1-inch compression tweeter, derived from its professional D2 design, has a diaphragm of tough, durable Teonex polyester film. It fires out via a patented High Definition Imaging (HDI) waveguide horn, of the type found in JBL’s professional monitors, for maximum controlled dispersion and pinpoint soundstaging.

The SCL-4 can be mounted in any orientation, and plays well at just about any position, from left-right mains to over-the-head Atmos. And the paintable magnetic grille means the SCL-4 blends into any décor, or disappears when installed, sans grille, behind an acoustically transparent projection screen.

The SCL-4 stands alone in any fine home theater setup. But it really shines when combined with the similarly sonic-signatured SCL-2s and SCL-3s, and one or more S2S-EX subwoofers. And when you build a custom, scalable Synthesis system, adding in the extravagant SDA-4600 multichannel amp, SDEC-4500P equalizer, and SDP-75 16- to 32-channel digital surround processor – oh my, you have to hear to believe.
